Timothy Keener Obituary
Cincinnati - Timothy Clark Keener, age 69, passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2018. Loving and devoted husband of Sumana Udom Keener, cherished father of Kathleen Ploy Keener (Chris Motz) and Benjamin Hayden Keener, dear brother of Marty Keener Murphy (TN); uncle to Sterling Chandler (Alexis) Keener (TX), Nicole Keener (Thomas Feverborn) (OK) and Nicole Casseri (Ron) Edler (LA); first cousin to Alice Ruth Johnson (FL) and William Keener Johnson (TN); brother-in-law to Thanin (Angkana) Udom (Bangkok) and Daranie Udom (Ed) Rentz (GA). Preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Clark and Maxine Gilbert Keener; brother John Gilbert Keener; paternal grandparents; John and Molly Thomas Keener; maternal grandparents, Timothy Chandler and Ruth Emert Gilbert. He was born June 21, 1948 in Sevierville, TN, attended Olney Boarding School in Barnesville OH, and completed undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Tennessee. He was Professor Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, where he had been Professor of Engineering and Senior Associate Dean for 32 years until retirement in 2015. An internationally renowned scholar, he was the proud recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship from the US State Department and the Lyman A. Ripperton Award for Distinguished Achievement as an Educator from the Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA), among many other honors. He also served as Technical Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the A&WMA from 2012 to 2015, helping to shepherd JA&WMA from a traditional manuscript submittal system to a fully online manuscript submittal process. He will be remembered for his love and strong sense of family, joy of life, lasting friendships, and wonderful sense of humor. Memorial service will be held at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church, 1345 Grace Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45208 (www.hydeparkchurch.org) on Saturday July 21, 2018 at 2 PM.
