Allison Amatangelo Obituary

Allison Elizabeth Amatangelo

Mrs. Allison Elizabeth Amatangelo, age 82, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on March 16, 2021, in Hendersonville, NC after a courageous battle with Parkinson's.

Allison is survived by her husband, Tony Amatangelo, of home; her daughter, Marcia Amatangelo, of Raleigh, NC; her son, Mark Amatangelo of Seattle, WA, her sisters Suzy (Bill) Pearson, Judy Cerasoli, Jane (Mike) Forte, and her brother Ian (Susan) Chalmers, her 3 grandchildren Lucas, Abigail, and Caley Mitchell, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces/nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Chalmers, and her mother, Ida (McCormley) Chalmers.

Allison was born on February 13, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Education and taught High School Biology in Pittsburgh and Charleston, WVa. She wed Anthony Amatangelo in 1962 and they were happily married for 58 ½ years. After finally settling in the Raleigh area, she became a Real Estate Agent for over 10 years. She and Tony retired to her dream home in Black Mountain, where they lived until moving to Hendersonville 10 years ago.

Allison loved flowers and all things in nature. She was a docent for many years at the Western North Carolina Nature Center in Ashville, NC, and was a Master Gardener through the NC Extension Program. She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and quilter, especially when making stockings and blankets for family and friends in her later years. She previously served as President of the Old Depot Association in Black Mountain, NC, and the Board/Grounds Committee at Carriage Park, Hendersonville, NC. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hendersonville, NC. Allison and Tony loved to travel and traversed the world, making over 34 trips abroad, including many ocean and riverboat cruises.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at a later date due to Covid-19. Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Hendersonville is assisting the family.

Oh, my, this obituary just came up on a google search when I typed the name ALLISON. I just wanted her family to know that I have thought of her so many times throughout my life. You see, she was my inspiration to become a biology teacher after having her for biology at Charleston High in the 60's. (perhaps 1967?) I graduated in '68. She was the cutest little petite blonde back in those days, and I was just so taken with her personality and intelligence. After graduation I attended West Virginia Wesleyan College and majored in biology. I taught biology for over 25 years in the Charleston, WV, area. All due to her! Like her I've also been an avid gardener. I so wish I could have told her these things in person! This will be a lifelong regret. My sympathies to her family.

I so enjoyed meeting and staying with Allison for almost two years.
She was so kind and thoughtful and always helped me with answers to my questions about flowers. Her quilting was exquisite.
I miss her.
