Betty Phillips Obituary
Roanoke, VA - On January 21, 2018, Betty Phillips [Teeter] neé Drymon (age 90) departed this world and went to be with her savior.
Betty Sue Phillips neé Drymon was born in Erwin, TN June 6th, 1927 to Nadja A. Drymon [Sullins] and Carl F. Drymon. She lived her early days in Spruce Pine and Gastonia, NC. Her later years found her studying nursing with her sister Perry at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC. Betty married John H. Teeter of Charlotte, NC and moved to Roanoke, VA where she raised her five boys. Betty proudly focused on pediatric nursing and was made instructor of the year at Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley, Roanoke, VA in 1973. Later she was to wed Thomas M. Phillips of Spruce Pine, NC and ran a small Bed-and-Breakfast named Still Hollow near Ingalls, NC. Betty had a life-long love of gardening and in retirement she continued her studies and ultimately achieved the rank of Master Gardener.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Marjorie, Delsey Bradshaw, Joyce Hall, and Carlene Bailey and survived by her sister Perry Shaffer, Asheville, NC. In her marriage to John H. "Hal" Teeter she is survived by son, John and Fara Teeter, Salem, VA, grandson Ken Teeter, Roanoke, VA; son Tom Teeter, Roanoke, VA; son Bob Teeter, Roanoke, VA, granddaughter Leslie and Robbie Van Gieson, great grandsons Justin and Bryce Van Gieson; son Jeff and Kathy Teeter, Boones Mill, VA, grandchildren Karla Teeter and Collin Teeter, Boones Mill, VA; son Dan Teeter, Memphis, TN.
By marriage to Thomas M. Phillips she is survived by Vickie and Jack Ollis, Woodstock, GA; Michael and Joy Phillips, son Thomas, Raleigh, NC; Marcia and Darrell Cantrell, Lebanon, VA; son Ben Cantrell, grandson Landon and granddaughter Hanah, Kingston, GA; son Jarrod and Amanda Cantrell, grandson, Jordon, Cedar Bluff, VA; daughter Tracy and Jeff Maggard, grandson Jacob and granddaughter Kayla, Pounding Mill, VA, Stanley Phillips, Wake Forest, NC; daughter Megan Phillips, Ocoee, FL.
Memorial arrangements for Betty will be in late July 2018 in Spruce Pine, NC on a date and time to be determined. Those interested may email [email protected] .
