Craig Mosley Obituary

Craig Robert Mosley

Asheville - Craig Robert Mosley passed away peacefully on August 19, 2020, after a brief, heroic battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 62. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was born on June 22, 1958, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a son of the late Lamar and Leonore Mosley. He always considered Cincinnati home, even after living and raising a family for 22 years (and 22 winters) in Midland, Michigan.

Craig is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Carol and their wonderful children, Colleen Mosley (Ube Urban), Cara Mosley (Matt Giovanetti), and Cameron Mosley. He also had one adored grandson, Grey Mosley Urban, who affectionately called him "P-chop", instead of "G-pop" and five siblings: Susan Osterhues (Rick), Kevin Mosley (Sara Nelson), Matthew Mosley (Audrey), Nora Beaulieu (David), and Paul Mosley (Angie). He is also arguably the favorite uncle of his thirty nieces and nephews.

Craig graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1979 with a degree in Finance. He worked for his entire 32-year career at the Dow Chemical Company. After retiring at age 52, Craig and Carol moved to Asheville to enjoy a milder climate and to allow Craig to pursue his newfound love of cycling. He was actively involved in the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, serving as President and as a ride leader for several years. Craig was also very involved at his church, Skyland United Methodist, serving on several committees and always available to lend a helping hand.

A private memorial service for the family will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 22 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. For those who wish to view the service, it will be streamed live on Groce Funeral Home's Facebook page (facebook.com/grocefh). I was a colleague of Craig's at the Dow Chemical Company, although I think I played more golf with him, than actually working on projects. He was wonderful man and I am very sad to have heard of his passing. I do find comfort in knowing that he is Heaven. Dear Craig please pray for us from up above. Bless you.

We only became aware of Craig's passing today. He was a wonderful man and father. I knew Craig working at Dow and also through Colleen on her tennis team. Always a stand up guy. I am glad he had the ten years of retirement with family and doing what he loved most for fun: cycling. Our deepest condolences to Carol, Colleen, and family. Neil and Annmarie Hawkins

So sorry for your loss. We remember our last dinner together with fondness. We also remember his kindness to Sarah and I when we moved to Stade. Craig was always so calm, wise and kindhearted. He never had a bad word to say and was a great guy. We will miss him. Our thoughts are with Carol and family at this sad time. With love. Neil and Sarah.

I am so sorry for your loss. My best memory of Craig came after I fractured my collarbone in 2011 after a bike accident. My recovery was a very long journey that made me scared to get back on a bike. One time, when I was in the gym doing my physical therapy exercises, he came and asked if I wanted to get out and ride. I was reluctant but he told me he was going to ride with a group of friends on the rail trail that weekend, and he had a tandem bike so I didn't have to do any peddling. I took his offer and went. That was the only time I've been on a real bike since the shoulder injury. Craig's kindness, thoughtfulness, and encouragement made this experience unforgettable. It's a precious memory I'll never forget.

While I lived and worked in Midland for 5 years, I had the privilege to get to know Craig both on some bike rides as well as at work. I remember him a very warm person with genuine interest in others' wellbeing, as well as a great and very knowledgeable colleague.

Craig was a friend. I remember lots of good times together. We worked and played together, bonding while we live out of the US. We helped each other living as expatriates. Our families did as well, as Carol and Lana we’re raising small children. We have lost a good man and friend. Carol our hearts go out to you.

Craig will be missed by so many. At Dow he always had a smile on his face and encouraging word to share with everyone he touched. Carol, your Dow family is thinking about you and your family during this very difficult time.
