Elmer Harper Sr.

Asheville - Elmer Harper, Sr., 80, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Mission Hospital.

Elmer was born November 22, 1938, in Asheville, NC. and was the son of the late Elmore Harper and Ruth Petty. Elmer was a member of Fairmont Baptist Church and served as Sunday School teacher and Chairman of the Deacon Ministry. He was also a member of the Layman League, Mud Creek Missionary Baptist Association and Righteous Men.

Elmer worked at American Enka, the former Toms Orthopedic Hospital, Fredrickson Trucking Company for twenty-two years and retired from Black Mountain Center in 2003 after seven years of service. He enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite football team the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Annie Mae Glasby, Sarah Lordman and Helen Robinson; brothers, John Petty, William Petty, Marcellus Petty, and James Harper.

Family left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Brown Harper; daughter, Lisa Camille Harper; son, Elmer Harper, Jr.;; granddaughters, Shaneysha Xariera Tomes and Ava Grayce Harper; grandsons, Keishaun Marquise Tomes and Brycen Marquise Harper; great-granddaughter, La'Mirra Shanya Alexis Douglas; great-grandson, Alexander Lamar Douglas II; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family and friends.

Funeral Service will be 1 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2018, Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
