Mildred Marleen McCanless

Woodfin - Mildred Marleen McCanless, age 59, died Sunday, January 1, 2012.

Marleen was born February 24, 1952, in Asheville. She graduated from Clyde A. Erwin High School in 1970 and the Criminal Justice program at A-B Tech. She was preceded in death by her parents, James H. Stewart, Sr., and Mildred Partin Stewart; sons, Shane and Christopher McCanless; brothers, James Stewart, Jr., and Dale Stewart.

Surviving are her granddaughter, Jamie Alexandria McCanless of Asheville, whom she adored; daughter-in-law, Vandee Hyder; several nieces, cousins, sisters-in-law, great nieces and nephew; and special friend, Nancy Cole.

Her graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2012, in West Memorial Park, with Rev. Charles Phillips officiating and Aimee Stewart giving the eulogy.

The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.

Family and Friends of Marleen,

I worked with Marleen at the Guardian ad Litem Program. She was a very passionate woman about children and that they get the best chance in life. It was a pleasure to have known Marleen.
