Alexander - Patsy Maxine Lanning Smith, 75, of 40 Smith Valley Road, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at her home.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was formerly employed with American Enka, Sears and Taylor Instruments and was a former member of Emma Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Robert Charles Lanning and Lillian Kathleen Calloway Lanning and wife of Charles D. Smith, Sr. who died November 27, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Sheila Darlene Smith and Lynn Michelle Smith Ingle; son, Charles D. "Chuck" Smith, Jr.; sister, Doris Marie Quakenbush and brother, Charles Edward Lanning.

Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Marie Smith Shuffler of Alexander; son, Chad Dewayne Smith of the home; grandchildren, Shelby Shuffler, Avery Shuffler and Clay Ingle; sisters, Susie Ann Roseborough of Candler, Nancy Jean Burris of Oteen, Joyce Gale Buckner, Debra Louise Harman, Kathy Darlene Lanning and Sharon Elizabeth Anders all of West Asheville; brother, James "Jim" Robert Lanning of Alexander and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 17, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carl Roseborough, Jeff Moulds, Avery Shuffler, Clay Ingle, Dale Shuffler and Tommy Silvers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
