Asheville - Rex Jackson Snodgrass, 80, of Asheville, died on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his home with his wife by his side. He lived a full and fulfilled life.

He was the son of the late Raymond and Helen Snodgrass, and was raised in Paducah, KY, Dayton, OH, and Arlington, VA. Mr. Snodgrass was an alumnus of Harvard College where he received his M.S., and also of the University of Maryland where he earned his PhD in physics. After graduation he spent a post doctoral year at the Sorbonne in Paris. As an experimental physicist, he worked at the National Bureau of Standards, University of Connecticut, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Dr. Snodgrass loved sports, especially playing tennis, sailing, and skiing. He pursued learning all his life; after retirement he enjoyed teaching classes at the College for Seniors at UNC Asheville in cosmology and physics. Theology was another area of study; he was a member and frequent teacher of the Pressure Points Sunday School class at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Denise; son, Ryan Snodgrass and wife, Mary, and their daughter, Violet; daughter, Heather Murphy and husband, Tyler, and their son, Hagan; sister, Jill Over and her husband, Tom Mitchell, and many wonderful friends and extended family.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Mark Ramsey and Rev. Kristy Farber officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Denise, I will miss Rex as a friend and as a doubles partner. What a life he had ! So many accomplishments including such a wonderful family! Peace be with you.
