Woodfin - Travis Land Reynolds, age 92, of Woodfin died Thursday, April 5, 2012.

Mr. Reynolds was born June 20, 1919, in Lone Wolf, Okla., to Charles Mouton and Emma Hardin Reynolds. Besides his parents, he is also preceded in death by his son, Travis Carroll Reynolds; brothers, Benjamin F. Reynolds and Alvin Reynolds; and sisters, Cassie Lorene Reed and Thelma Florence Reed.

Travis grew up in Hobart, Okla., and was a Texas Ranger as a young man. He served in the Navy during World War II as a diesel mechanic in the Panama area. While convalescing in Asheville at the Kenilworth Inn, he met and shortly thereafter married Mabel. He not only fell in love with his wife here, but also the beautiful mountains of Pisgah, and vowed never to leave them. He worked in Asheville as a taxi cab driver for Blue Bird Taxi Service, as a driver for Coble Dairy, and finally started up business as a floor finisher as Reynolds Flooring Service, which he continued until he retired. He and his wife dealt in antiques and flowers. They also took great joy in refurbishing homes and loved gardening. He was a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church and VFW Post 891.

Those who knew and loved him knew that he was a very independent man and lived his life to the fullest - through the hard times of the dust bowl of Oklahoma and being orphaned at an early age, the rigors of WWII with valor, and through the good times of his golden years with his wife and family. He will be missed by those he leaves behind.

In addition to his beloved wife of 67 years, Mabel Suddreth Reynolds, he is survived by two sisters, Arradella Lane and husband Joe W. of St. George, Utah, and Mable M. Nieman and husband Marvin of Muleshoe, Texas; daughters, Joyce Dillingham, and Sharon Tanya Brown and husband Paul; daughter-in-law, Judy Edmonds Reynolds; grandchildren, Larry N. Dillingham, Jr., Chris D. Dillingham, Pamela J. Dillingham, Travis J. Reynolds, Jacob Browning, Benjamin Brown, Daniel Brown, and Sara Rose Brown. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and very special friends, Jerry Eplee and Diane Smoak.

Our family extends grateful gratitude to Golden Living Retirement Center, the Weaverville Dialysis Center, and the V.A. Medical Center for the wonderful care he received in his final year.

Mr. Reynolds' funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Monday, April 9, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. C.W. Anthony officiating. Private burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
