Albert Yeager Obituary

Albert (Pug) Yeager of Nanticoke passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at his home from colon cancer.

He was born July 22, 1923, a son of the late John and Anna Janitsky Yeager.

Drafted into the Army during his senior year from Nanticoke High School, Mr. Yeager served with the 778 Headquarters Battalion throughout the European Theater, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

Upon his discharge, he resided in New York where he worked at La Guardia Airport. Later he moved to Philadelphia where he was employed by various department stores in security.

Later, Mr. Yeager was employed by Emarco Elevator Co., Hazleton, as an elevator mechanic. He was employed as a mechanic by various elevator companies until his retirement in 1986 from International Union of Elevator Construction Local 76. After his retirement, he joined his wife operating the Noble Bar.

He served as treasurer and secretary of American Legion Post 350, treasurer of Nanticoke Quoit Club, founder and treasurer of the Ala Baba Club, member of West Side Playground Association and a former member of Nanticoke Lions Club.

Mr. Yeager was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by his eight siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy Sersen; son, Mark and his wife, Carol; stepgranddaughter, Amy Patton, son, David, all from Nanticoke; granddaughter, Marissa Gallagher Yeager, Harveys Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Yeager was a member of St. Joseph's Slovak Church.

A Mass with cremated remains will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Slovak Catholic Church, Nanticoke. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Community Care Home Health, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.

Arrangements are by Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., Nanticoke.

Pug will always be remembered as a nice guy, I had the pleasure of hanging out at the Noble Bar and was able to walk home to Church Street! My sympathies to the Yeager family.
