Andrew Timko Obituary

Andrew "Sandy" A. Timko Jr., 72, of Shavertown, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on Oct. 15, 1951, he was the son of the late Andrew Timko Sr. and Eleanor Jagoda Timko.

Known to his family and friends as Sandy, he loved sports at an early age, excelling at every sport he played, especially baseball and football. So much so, that after graduating from Plains High School, he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Delaware Valley College, where he majored in chemistry.

He also played for the Scranton Red Sox Collegiate baseball team. He truly had a passion for sports and was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals, Montreal Expos and Philadelphia Eagles fan. He also had a knack for statistics and could tell you anything about any player in professional sports, it was truly impressive.

He was also an amazing golfer, winning countless invitationals for his employer and many competitions at Spring Ford Country Club.

He worked at Ashland Chemical for over 25 years, retiring as vice president of the Northern Region.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Donna Lussi Timko; daughter, Alissa Timko, Shavertown; son, Andrew A. Timko, III (Jessica), Wyoming; grandchildren, Carmella, Buddy, Ava, Jaxton, Grantland and Gracelyn; brothers, Jack Timko (Dorothy), Plains and Ronald Timko (Barbara), Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Bernie Lello (Denis), Swoyersville and Gail Lussi, Exeter; nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC, 251 William St., Pittston. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William Street, Pittston. Interment was in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

I have very many fond memories of Sandy. We play junior varsity football in eight grade and went on to play senior varsity football until our graduation in 1969 as Plains Memorial High School Plainsmen. Sandy played half pack and I played full back. I've blocked for him he blocked for me. Sandy also excelled in baseball during a his year's at Planes High School. He was one of a kind in the sports arena at Plains High School. RIP SANDY!! My wife Mona and I will keep your family in our prayers. And I will see you in heaven when the time comes.

One of the most celebrated athletic families in the Wyoming Valley. From their Dad, through Jack, Ron and Sandy. Had the pleasure to compete with the boys in baseball, all three were outstanding in multiple sports. Very sad of Sandy's passing. He'll always be remembered as a good person and athlete along with the rest of his family. My prayers are with you my friend, Rest In Peace, hopefully we'll meet again
