Carol Roccograndi Obituary

Carol Mae Roccograndi passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.

Carol was born on Christmas Day, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Nellie Altenhoff Jones and was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Carol was a member of the Lady Lions Club and was active in fundraising for the American Cancer Society and St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Carol was happiest when she was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She volunteered in many children's organizations over the years such as soccer, softball, football, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and assisted in the school cafeteria and library. Carol was an advocate for patriotism. Patriotic and military music was played in her home, along with show tunes and oldies. Those who visited also admired her many holiday and seasonal decorations.

Along with her late husband, Thomas, she enjoyed playing Scrabble, working crypto quotes, crosswords, jumbles, bowling and drives in the fall. From her jokes and pranks to her Lola dances, she kept her family and friends always entertained.

Her love of Sunday family dinners kept her cooking every day into early in the morning hours, always making enough to feed not only her family, but everyone who walked into her home. Carol's home was always filled with love, laughter and good times - you could always count on a party going on no matter the hour.

Carol loved old musicals, going to plays, watching "The Golden Girls," "Everybody Loves Raymond," "The Andy Griffith Show," "Leave It to Beaver," "The Honeymooners" and "I Love Lucy" and shopping on QVC.

Everyone who left her home was reminded to "Look both ways, watch crossing, put your seatbelt on and drive slow."

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her son, Stephen Anthony; husband, Thomas; brothers, Dr. Robert and Dr. Donald Jones; and sisters, Betty Morgan and Lois Martin.

Carol Mae is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Roccograndi Mazur, West Wyoming; son, Thomas Roccograndi, Luzerne; son, Gary Roccograndi, Mountain Top; daughter, Linda Roccograndi Bravyak and husband, Jack, Forty Fort; son, David Roccograndi, Luzerne; and son, Jimmy and wife, Audrey Roccograndi, Forty Fort. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kaitlyn and husband, Andrew Sexton; and Mackensie Mazur; Gary Roccograndi Jr. and wife, April; Corey Roccograndi; Jocelynn Roccograndi and partner, Louis; Adam Bravyak; Christopher Bravyak and partner, Danielle; Alycia Bravyak, Jonathan Bravyak and wife, Gabi; and Cody Roccograndi and fiancée, Dena; and great-grandchildren, Kallista, Thomas John (TJ), Autumn and Miles Bravyak; and former daughters-in-law, Angie and Judie, with whom she remained close. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, with the Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi officiating. Interment was in the family plot at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Arrangements are by Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.

The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Joseph at Geisinger and her devoted and loving caregivers, Bonnie, Maureen C., Amanda, Mattie, Maureen G., Rebekah and her daughter, Carolyn.

"Treat your family like friends and your friends like family" and "Fill your home with family and friends" hung on the wall in her dining room.

"We'll see you later Grandma." "OK, what time?"

My sincere condolences to my BFF Carolyn and the entire Rocco family. Your parent´s home was always filled to the brim with food, wine, puzzles, parties and laughs. Always room for one more at the table or on the porch. When are you leavin? Never forget your Dad making late night prank phone calls and Mom laughing right up to the end. Thank you for the memories. Let´s make new ones, and pass the torch.
