Charles Naples Obituary

Charles J. Naples, 84, of Pittston Township died Saturday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Elmer and Concetta Massara Naples.

Mr. Naples was a graduate of Pittston High School and Scranton University. He was a U.S. Army corporal with Company A, 164 Engineers Battalion during World War II, involved in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

Mr. Naples was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston. He was an original member of King's College Century Club and a member of the Society of Retired Executives. He was also export manager for the Economic Development Council of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his brothers John, Anthony, Michael and Patrick.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, the former Beatrice Nanni; sons, Charles J. Jr. and wife, Sally, St. Louis, Mo.; Paul J. and wife, Charlotte, Exeter; Gary J. and wife, Sharon, Wilkes-Barre Township; Elmer F. and wife, Judy, Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Michelle, Marilyn, Melissa, Paul, Suzanne, Lita, Christopher, Sabrina and C.J.; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Samuel, New Orleans; sister, Mary Lombardi, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pittston, with the Rev. Paul McDonnell officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Friday, 4 to 8 p.m.

Although I never met Charles Naples, I work with his grandson, Chris. I was extremely impressed to read about Mr. Naples' background during WWII. Clearly, Chris comes from heroic stock. My sympathies for the family during this trying time.
