Christopher Barbarevech Obituary

Christopher Anthony Barbarevech, M.D., 58, of Moosic, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Duryea, Christopher was the son of the late Raymond and Marie Capone Barbarevech.

He graduated from Seton Catholic High School in Pittston, where he met his wife of 34 years, the former Teresa Costantino. Christopher graduated the University of Scranton for his undergrad with a major in biology and went on to graduate Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia for his M.D., residency and fellowship.

Upon graduation, he moved his family back to Moosic, and began his career as a gastroenterologist, which he practiced with compassion and diligence. Christopher was a partner of G.I. Consultants in Scranton, where he practiced up until his cancer diagnosis.

In his personal life, Christopher had many interests and hobbies. He was a member of the Freemasons, an avid wine collector, co-president of the Westmorland Club's Wine Affinity Club, an ardent lover of the fine arts and member of the board of directors for the Broadway Theater League of the Scranton Cultural Center, and a fine food enthusiast. One of his biggest passions, however, was traveling with his wife and family.

On top of these many hobbies, Christopher was an advocate for many charities, up to and including being a founding member of the Westmorland Club Charitable Foundation scholarship fund.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Frank and Emilene Sicilio Costantino.

Christopher had a personality bigger than life and made family out of friends wherever he went and his generosity knew no bounds.

He is survived by his wife Teresa; eldest daughter, Dr. Kristiana Barbarevech; youngest daughter, Karissa Barbarevech and wife, Shaelyn; first grandchild, Brian Christopher; and his loving furry companion, Lucky, all of Moosic.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Lisa Thomas, Nicole Francis, PA-C, and the entire staff of Hematology and Oncology Associates of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Dr. Samir Pancholy and the entire staff of Geisinger Community Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you send donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagertown, MD 21741.

This was heartbreaking and shocking. We knew the Barbarevech family from Holy Rosary School. They would attend their children's games in unison, and that usually included the very busy Dr. B and included both grandmothers. When you saw them out, they were so friendly and gracious. My family had the honor to be invited to a party at their warm and beautiful home. And so, even though I have not had the occasion to see them in years, I was very saddened to see this news. My sympathy to Teresa and her children and family.

Dr. Barbarevech saved my life w/ a prescription, that's a daily solution to a health problem. Dr. B. was a kind, caring soul & highly intelligent. May God bless his family @ this time of sorrow. May God hold him in the palm of His hand until Dr. Barbarevech meets his family & friends again. He will be missed. RIP

We met him as a young brilliant man, whose reputation preceded himself. We watched him marry his high school sweetheart, our fellow classmate and the love of his life, Teresa. We watched him raised his two beautiful daughters, we watched him become an outstanding physician and pilar of the NEPA medical community. And now, we watch him leave us too soon. The loss is great. The Seton Catholic class of 1984 will remember you fondly and forever. To Teresa and the girls, Jean and I feel your loss and pain and we pray that Chris will rest in eternal peace. Our hearts are broken for you.
