Clifton Owens Obituary

Clifton J. Owens, 69, of Wyoming passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at home.

Mr. Owens was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 23, 1944, and was the beloved son of Berdine R. Warner and the late Clifton Owens.

After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, Levittown, in 1962, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served as Navy corpsman aboard the USS Ticonderoga (CVA-14) during the Vietnam War.

He married the former Sheila L. Slusser in 1970 and resided in Shavertown for many years with their two daughters, Tiffany and Melissa. He retired from Nesbitt Memorial Hospital after a four-decade career in the hospital pharmacy.

During his retirement, he enjoyed ballroom dancing with his many friends, and was always around to lend a hand to others. Cliff will be missed for his quick wit and sense of humor. He laughed in abundance, particularly at what he just said.

Predeceasing him, in addition to his father, were his wife, Sheila L., and his stepfather, George V. Stedman. Surviving, along with his mother, are his daughters, Tiffany J. Owens, Ashburn, Va.; Melissa J. Collins, Vienna, Va.; and a granddaughter, Zoe Grace.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday with the funeral service being conducted at 6 p.m. at the Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home Inc., 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with Laura M. Lewis, pastor of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

We will surely miss this most gentlemanly of people. We knew Cliff through his passion for people and dancing. He always brought a smile to one's face. Sincere and kind,Cliff must have been a most wonderful son and father.
Besides his family, Cliff has touched many people in a way that most people don't have the capacity to.
He will be missed, but never forgotten.

Cliff was loyal and caring and funny and a very nice guy. The dance community of which I was a part for many years will miss his warm smile and gentle soul. His dancing feet will no doubt bring him to a place of rest and happiness. Thanks for the dances Cliff! And for being such a good sport about visiting NYC. Jeanne F.

Cliff and I went thru high school together in West Wyoming and he moved before our senior year. But, he always came to our 1962 WWHS Class Reunions. One could never forget him. He was always a pleasure to be around, and certainly he was a gentleman. Full of fun and wit. Our class loved him. Our condolences to his Mother, Children, and Grandchildren. My heartfelt feelings go out to Cliff's daughters and mother. Cliff was a tremendous friend who was kind, a true gentleman, and always made me laugh. I will miss him very much.
He had a tremendous fatherly love for his daughters and always spoke so beautifully about them. He was also a devoted son taking such wonderful care of his dear mother.
I hope in time that the wonderful memories that you have of your father will help ease the pain of losing him.
He will be missed by his many, many friends.
Sincerely,
Michele Noto

Cliff embodied what dancing, in my opinion, was meant to be. Not to be the "Max or Derrick" of the crowd, but to have the best time possible on the floor at all times, which he did. He was kind to me always, especially in the beginning when I was new and inexperienced, and when I had some very difficult times, and I will always cherish that, and I will miss him very much.

I was so upset to hear of Cliff's passing. I worked with him at the Pharmacy at Nesbitt until he retired. From the moment I met him, I liked him, who couldn't? With that wit and contagious laugh, he always brightened my day. I just saw him not too long ago.I didn't know it would be my last. I will miss you forever my friend, and I thank you for all the happiness you brought to my life.
