David Russell, 60, of Lebanon, formerly of Kingston, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, at his residence, the American House, after a lifelong battle with mental illness.
He was born Oct. 3, 1961, in Nanticoke, to the late Sylvia Smith Russell. In David's earlier years, he attended Wyoming Valley West and later graduated from West Side Tech. Upon graduation, he joined the military and proudly served in the U.S. Air force. He returned home and was employed by the Times Leader and the Municipality of Kingston. He loved fishing and had a passion for tinkering with old electronics and radios. But mostly he loved listening to The Beatles, playing his guitar and his harmonica.
In addition to his mom, Sylvia, who was David's advocate, confidant and his voice when he needed one, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sarah Prothero Smith and Louis Smith.
He is survived by his sister, Deborah Russell and her wife, Susan Robak, Kingston; and cousins.
Through all his trials and troubles, he managed to remain a kind soul with a generous heart giving to those in need. His selflessness was his light.
"Now the darkness only stays the night-time
"In the morning it will fade away
"Daylight is good at arriving at the right time
"It's not always going to be this grey."
- George Harrison
