Dean Allen Hunter went to meet our lord and savior peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024.
He was born to the late Don and Nora Jane Brocious Hunter. He attended Northwest High School and graduated from West Side Vocational School, Class of 1970. He served for a short time in the Navy starting in 1978 to have later, an Honorable discharge.
Dean was a man whose spirit thrived in nature. His passion for the outdoors was evident in every step he took along the Appalachian Trail, where he proudly journeyed through its rugged terrain. His adventurous spirit also led him to explore various sections of California, each hike and camping trip deepening his connection to God.
For Dean, the campfire was more than just a source of warmth - it was a gathering place where stories were shared and cherished memories were made. Dean's enjoyment in cutting wood for a fire kept him busy and satisfied in his later years. Whether surrounded by friends, family or his beloved daughter, Dean's presence around the fire was a testament to his appreciation of the simple joys of life.
Dean spent time as a long-haul truck driver and as an electrician, among other jobs. He dedicated much of his later years caring for his mother in her time of need. He attended and very much cherished services and Bible Study at the Stillwater Christian Church.
Dean will be greeted in heaven by his mother, Nora Jane; father, Don Hunter; grandson, Michael Joseph Yech IV; sister, Judy Hudzik; brother, Dale Hunter; and nephew Brandon Hill.
Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Sheri Yech and husband, Michael Yech; granddaughters, Madison and Maci Yech, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Jill Hill and brother-in-law; best friend, Mark Hill, Hunlock Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Dean's wishes, there will be no funeral or calling hours, only a private celebration of life. His family would like to thank the nurses and physicians at Geisinger Hospital for their care and compassion in his last days.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Charles L. Cease Funeral Home, 634 Reyburn Road, Shickshinny.
