Donald Purvin, 88, of Shavertown, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the home he lived in for over 61 years.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Louis and Pearl Horlacher Purvin.
A graduate of Westmoreland High School, Class of 1952, Donald worked as a union carpenter for Sordoni Construction for most of his life.

He loved watching (occasionally complaining about) the Penn State Nittany Lions, Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles. Donald adored dogs, having loved and cared for nearly a dozen over the course of his lifetime.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Adelson; his brother, Fred Purvin; and his sisters, Geraldine Northcut and Esther Atherholt.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Carolyn Shaffer Purvin, who he visited every day at The Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center.
Also surviving are his daughter, Karen Arnaud and her husband, Brad, Dallas; his son-in-law, Sandy Adelson and his companion, Barbara, Delaware; his seven grandchildren, Brooke, April, Chris, Kevin, Jackie, Kyle and Ellen; and seven great-grandchildren; Alyssa, Sheldon, Loretta, Grant, Chloe, Alexandra and Haley.
Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refugee, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.

Did not hear the bad news of Dan and Caroline until today. We spent a lot of time together. Bowling and snowmobiling was a good friend.

Don was one of those men who kids sometimes encounter in their lives who helped us grow. He and Carolyn were neighbors for more than 50 years. Whatever us kids in the neighborhood were doing in the empty lot, Don would join in whether it was football, pitch practice or a basketball game in his driveway. He was a great guy. Condolences to Carolyn, and Karen and the family.
