Evan Thomas Obituary

Evan H. Thomas Jr., DDS, of Larksville, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, in Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 14, 1936, in Sommerville, N.J. Evan was the son of the late Evan H. and Clara Richcreek Thomas Sr. He was a graduate of Belleville High School, Belleville, N.J.

Evan enrolled in Lafayette College, Easton, and after completing two years, he enlisted n the United States Army during the Korean conflict era, serving as a combat engineer and achieving the rank of lieutenant.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge, Evan continued his education at Fairleigh-Dickinson University and graduated from the Fairleigh-Dickinson University School of Dental Medicine, Teaneck, N.J.

Dr. Thomas began a private practice of dentistry in Westwood, N.J., and later continued his private practice, relocating to Skowhegan, Maine. He later became the dental director for Rural Health Corporation of Northeast Pennsylvania, Wilkes-Barre, a position he held until retirement.

Dr. Thomas and his family resided in Shavertown for many years until moving to Larksville. Dr. Thomas was a founding member of Fellowship Church, Dallas, serving in the capacity of Elder, Deacon and teacher. He enjoyed golf, fishing, reading and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Penn State Nittany Lions and Dallas Cowboys.

The time he cherished most was the time he spent with family.

Dr. Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Cynthia Deane Bossard.

Surviving are his wife, the former Carol Simonsen; daughters, Elizabeth Rittenhouse (Donald), Larksville; Gail Kozich (Michael), Mountain Top; Joanna (Robert) Midgett, Allentown; sons, Evan H. III (Amy), Hershey; Andrew (Lily), Dallas; Attorney David (companion, Lacy), Lemoyne; Daniel, DMD (Carrie), Royersford. Dr. Thomas was "pop-pop" to his grandchildren, Megan, Kristen, Anna, Ricky, Caroline, Sophie, Matthew, Brooke, Andrew Jr., Jack, Hope, Ethan, Maggie, Everett, Emma, Luke, Danny, Erin, Sophia, Evan, Leah and Norah; and a great-granddaughter, Maura.

The Thomas family would like to thank the staff and nurses on the fourth floor of Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Twp., and the staff and nurses at Celtic Hospice for the compassionate care given to Dr. Thomas and for their kindness to them during his stay.

Friends and relatives are invited to visitation with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Fellowship Church, 45 Hilderbrandt Road, Dallas.

Funeral services for Dr. Thomas will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. Marc E. Ramirez, pastor, officiating.

Memorial contributions in Dr. Thomas' name may be made to Fellowship Church Legacy Worship building Campaign.

Arrangements are by Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home Inc., 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.
