Gertrude M. Muchler, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, in Serenity Care, a caring and loving nursing home in Kingston. She was surrounded by all her loved ones in the days before her passing.
Gertrude was born to the late Joseph and Stella Wasley, Sept. 27, 1929, into the home she would go on to spend 93 years in. Her home was her favorite.
She was a 1947 graduate of Hanover Area High School. She began her career at Isaac Long's Department Store and later moved to Crossroads Pharmacy. One of her favorite jobs was becoming an Avon representative and continuing that for over 50 years. She loved meeting new people and her career in sales brought her into the lives of so many.
Gertrude met the love of her life, Jack Muchler, in the late 1940s. They dated a few years and were married Nov. 11, 1950, in St. Mary's Church, Plymouth. Together they enjoyed a love of dancing, singing, traveling, family and friends.
Gertrude was blessed with two wonderful children, daughter, Diane Muchler-Small; and son, Allan Muchler, who will miss her greatly. Her children meant the world to her.
The light of her life came when her grandchildren were born. She will forever be remembered as "Grammy Gert" and will be missed immensely by Rachel Wojciechowski (Dan), Lauren Muchler, Brennan Muchler; and great-grandchildren, Ace and Delaney.
Gertrude enjoyed spending her time with her family and her friends, winning at the casino and traveling; Las Vegas was one of her favorites. Game Show Network and TLC played her favorite shows and she enjoyed baking; cheesecakes were her specialty. She never missed a birthday phone call which always began with singing happy birthday on our special days and every holiday gift of peanut butter smidgens.
Gertrude was a devout, dedicated and loyal Christian for the better part of her life. Her unwavering faith was astounding. She kept us all in her prayers, always. She will now live in our hearts as the Lord has called her home to be by his side.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Muchler; daughter, Diane Muchler-Small; sister, Phyllis Wasley; and a brother, Ed Wasley.
She is survived by her son, Allan; grandchildren, Rachel (Dan), Lauren and Brennan; great-grandchildren, Ace and Delaney; and nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Barney and Division streets, Wilkes-Barre.
Family and friends may visit from 9 a.m. to service time.
Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, Wilkes-Barre.
