Jack Danko, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Laurel Run on Monday morning, March 18, 2024.
Jack was a lifelong resident of Laurel Run where he retired from the family propane business, Danko Gas Service, that he owned and operated with his wife Betty for many years.
He was a passionate supporter of the Giants Despair Hillclimb, and a member of the Sports Car Club of America. Jack was the founder of DG Formula Motorsports and was an active racer as recently as last summer. When he wasn't racing, he enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty (Elizabeth F. Colleran), on Nov. 6, 2022; parents, Jack M. and Corrine A. Danko; and brother, Darryl R. Danko.
Surviving are his children, daughter, Apryl Danko (David Davis); sons, Jack Danko, Larry Danko (Jennifer), Darryl Danko (Christine) and Barry Griffith; grandchildren, Ashlee Castellano, AJ Abraham, Jack, Alexa, Paige and Kasey Danko; great-grandchildren, Corrinna Castellano and Beau Danko: brother, Larry Danko (Nancy); and many nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a memorial service to celebrate his life.

Sincere Condolences Jack's Family and Friends. It was always a pleasure to see Jack. His wit and humor always brightened your day. He will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
I will miss his annual visit with posters for the Hillclimb and also his presence at the event. He became a good friend and the honor of knowing him will stay with me forever.
The Hillclimb, the racing community and the area at large will now learn all that he did for the Giant's Despair. He brought pleasure and excitement to many who otherwise would never experience motorsports.
Rest In Peace my Friend, see you at the Big Finish Line!

So sorry to hear this-Jack was the reason I enjoyed working Giants every year-he so loved the sport and the event. The man made sure he walked around and thanked all of us working the event and always had a smile that never quit. He was a great man and we and the sport shall miss him.
