"It is what it is." ~ "I am who I am."
Jimmy Dorris, 41, of Shickshinny, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, after a long struggle with heroin addiction. We now have confirmation that Jimmy passed from a lethal dose of pure fentanyl.
His addiction caused many years of damage to his body, one being Hep C, of which he was cured. Damage was done to his heart and blood pressure which caused Jimmy to suffer a stroke in September 2022. Neither Jimmy nor his family has never been or will ever be embarrassed by his addiction.
Jimmy graduated in 2000 from Northwest Area High School, where he gave all of his teachers a run for their money. He worked for many years as a bartender at Ricketts Glen Hotel and for his aunt and uncle at Main Street Bar and Grill. He also worked for A-1 Inc. and his most recent employment was with N&L Trucking in Scranton.
Jimmy was preceded in death by many. He will surely be welcomed by his aunt, Jeanette "Nettie" Derr; Nanny and Poppy, Aggie and Harold McDaniels; his dad, James D. Dorris; and uncles, Mike Dorris and Bobby Long.
Here on Earth, he leaves behind many who loved him, including his mom, Peggy McDaniels; aunts, Brenda Long and Cathy McDaniels; uncle, Doug Derr Sr.; cousins, Tanya (Justin) Chapin and Dougie Derr; "nephew," Colton "Hemi" Chapin; stepmom, Rebecca Dorris; true friends, Dave (Nicole) Deyo, Josh "Pookie" Whitebread, Dante DiAgostino and Marvin "Butchie" Johnson.
He also leaves behind his beloved daughter, Asa Marie Dorris. He wasn't the dad that she needed or deserved but he loved her the only way he knew how. He was forever grateful that she has such a fantastic mom in Holly Bolesta, as well as a wonderful stepdad, Jason, and little sister, Amelia.
Jimmy was a heroin addict for about 19 years. He had times where he was clean and times where he definitely was not. He hated what drugs had made him become and the things it made him do. If he had any words to share, we know he would say: "Don't do it," "Don't try it" and "If you think it won't get you, think again." If you know someone struggling with addiction, please get them help, please NEVER give up on them.
Our Jimmy is now at peace! "Let your Soul and Spirit Fly, Into the Mystic" - Van Morrison. "Addiction doesn't discriminate."
Please no flowers.

Jimmy was still a great man. If not for his addiction he would have been an All State football player. I remember the days he would rush for 200 yards. Go Jimmy Go the chants would ring down from the stands. May he run and be free in heaven. Rest in peace Jimmy

I planted a tree in memory of Jimmy. One of my best friends, child. We should not be gone before our children. However I believe we make our choices before we even come to this planet. This planet is for experiencing and learning. Jimmy may be gone from the planet but he is not gone from the universe. You will be missed. Enjoy the ride Jimmy and say hi to Alvin for me. Love you.
