Joan Dymond Obituary

Joan Marie Dymond, who was born May 26, 1955, disappeared from her home in Wilkes-Barre on June 25, 1969, just one month after her 14th birthday. Her remains have recently been identified and returned to her family.

At the time of her death, she was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Wilkes-Barre, and a student at Meyers High School.

She was the daughter of George and Anne Karaliunas Dymond, both deceased.

She is survived by her brother, George Dymond, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Suzanne Estock and her husband, David, Wilkes-Barre; nephews, David Estock and his wife, Megan, Wayne; Daniel Estock and his wife, Kelly, Manlius, N.Y.; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family thanks Trooper Andrew Morgantini and the Pennsylvania State Police for their exhaustive and dedicated work in identifying her remains and for their sympathy and kindness to us in this sad and difficult situation.

We would also like to thank the Luzerne Foundation, which provided the significant funds for the DNA testing that led to Joanie's identification. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Joanie's memory is asked to consider the Luzerne Foundation's Closing Cases Fund, 34 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Special thanks to Steve Gawlas for his kindness and understanding in helping us to bury our sister.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation for Joanie from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. The Rev. James E. McGahagan will officiate.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Bear Creek at the resting place of her parents, who never gave up hope that she would one day return. May they all now rest in peace.

Condolences may be sent by visiting Joanie's obituary at www.natandgawlas.com.
