John Whispell, 61, of Pittston, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Isaac "Zeek" and Cora Webb Whispell.
John was a graduate of Pittston Area High School class of 1981.
John had great pride for the City of Pittston, working for the Street Department for nearly 20 years, currently as a foreman. He was a member of the Pittston City Fire Department since 1979 and the Pittston Ambulance from 1988-2013.
He was loyal and faithful to his family and friends and will be truly missed. John's final act of kindness was his donation to the Gift of Life Program, helping many families.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Tommy, and niece, Marjorie Viola Whispell.
John is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Fahey Whispell, and their daughters; Vikki McGrade (Edward Jr.), Pittston; and Erika Derhammer (Chad), Beaumont; grandchildren, Kaya, Carter, Liam, Raelynn and Jameson. Also surviving, mother-in-law, Emma Fahey; aunt, Reba Emil; brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held at Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC 251 William St., Pittston, followed by John's final ride through Pittston City.
