Joseph Chek Obituary

Joseph John Chek, 83, formerly of Nanticoke, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, in Bethesda, Md.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served as a technical sergeant in the Pacific Theater. Later he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve, following the completion of his baccalaureate.

He worked nearly 40 years for the Department of State as a department head until his retirement.

Mr. Chek was an active parishioner of St. Matthews Cathedral, Washington, D.C., for much of his life.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 22 S. Prospect St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
