Kathryn Hayes Obituary

Kathryn B. Hemmrich Hayes, 83, a resident of Wilkeswood Apartments, passed into eternal life unexpectedly Wednesday morning, May 14, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, following a brief illness.

Born July 14, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter to the late Charles and Agnes Franz Hemmrich. Educated in the New York school system, she was a graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School, Brooklyn. Having a love of art, Mrs. Hayes furthered her education by attending the Art Students League in Manhattan.

While living in the New York City area, she previously worked as a secretary for the Allstate Insurance Co. in Manhattan and was formerly an active member with the United Church of Christ in Woodhaven, Queens. Locally, she was a member of Messiah Primitive Methodist Church of Bear Creek Township, where her son, Hadly R., serves as pastor.

Mrs. Hayes is remembered by family as being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who placed her family as the focal point of her own life. She previously enjoyed tending to her gardens, and sharing her gifts and talents in art by painting various pictures of animals and nature scenes. Many of her works were displayed at the Blakeslee Farmers' Market from 2000 until 2007.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Mr. Robert Carter Hayes Jr., on July 15, 2011; by their infant son, Robert Carter Hayes III; and by two sisters, Agnes and Anna.

Surviving are her son, the Rev. Hadley R. Hayes and his wife, Dorothy A., Bear Creek Township; granddaughter, Heather Rae Hayes and her fiancé, Stanley Sopata, Bear Creek Township; and her beloved great-grandson, Robert Carter Hayes IV.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hayes will be conducted by her son, the Rev. Hadley R. Hayes, at 11 a.m. Monday from the North Wilkes-Barre location of John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment and prayers of committal will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join Mrs. Hayes' family for visitation and remembrances from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions are requested in Mrs. Hayes' memory to the SPCA of Luzerne County, Fox Hill Road, Plains Township, PA 18705.

Our Deepest Sympathy. Kathryn was a wonderful person and so very talented. Paul and I loved to visit with her and Bob at the Flee Market in Blakeslee. We have so many wonderful items which Kathryn painted many Blacks Bears and Deer for me. Loved to visit and just chat with Bob when he was alive and Kthryn as well. Emanuel has lost a very dear member and a very dear friend. Kathryn and Bob as well will remain in many of our hearts forever. Love Paul and Doris Rugen
