Kenneth Frantz, 81, of West Pittston, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023, at his home.
Born Nov. 5, 1941, in Wilkes-Barre, to the late Gordon and Gertrude Stephenson Frantz. Ken was an only child, he graduated from Meyers High School and attended Wilkes College, receiving an art degree. He was drafted into the Army in 1964 and stationed in Germany for photomapping/cartographic draftsman and marksman. He was employed at Suburban Publishing Company, West Pittston, when he came home from the Army.
He married the late Helen Dewald, of Mountain Top, Aug. 5, 1978. Ken was a member of St. John's Lodge, Yatesville. He was an avid bowler, NASCAR and racing fan who photographed and drew portraits of many drivers with their cars along with designing the logos for champagne bottles at the Pocono International Raceway, Long Pond. He also took photographs at Evergreen Speedway, Drums, Giant's Despair, Laurel Run, Linda's Speedway and other raceways along with designing the Christmas cover pages of Area Auto Racing News.
He was an avid Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Hockey fan: he would take NHL figures and paint them by hand to represent the different uniforms/sweaters, including Tux, and take them to be signed by the players. He designed logos for the Music Box Playhouse, Swoyersville, along with designing the four Imprint logo, he did artwork for Van Scoy, Jewelcor and many others. He painted the walls inside the train cars that were previously known as The Station, Wilkes-Barre. He also enjoyed designing his own Christmas cards, Christmas displays with train platforms and ceramics with his deceased wife, Helen.
He is survived by his caregiver/sister-in-law, Janet Lord; and his dog, Velvet; along with his deceased wife's siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and cousins.

Graveside memorial service will be in the near future in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
Arrangements and on-site cremation are under the care of Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton.

Ken was a wonderful man and a great racing photographer - I talked with him every week at Evergreen Raceway as long as he was there taking his pictutres - I will miss him dearly
