Marie M. Balent, 93, of Dupont, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the River View Nursing and Rehab Center, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Dupont, April 27, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stephanie Ritzie Balent.
Marie was a very devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, having been a member of its Altar and Rosary Society and St. Cecilia's Choir. She was a graduate of Dupont High School, Class of 1947, and attended Empire Beauty School. Marie worked in the local garment industry, then worked many years for the Consolidated Cigar Company, West Pittston, and worked briefly for Crown Juvenile, Kingston.
Marie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; she loved to travel on many group outings and loved attending weekly bingo held at the Germania Hose Company, Duryea. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva Balent; and her brother, George Balent; and sister-in-law, Gloria Balent.
Marie is survived by her sister, Eleanor Balent, Dupont; and her brother, Joseph Balent, Dupont; and sister-in-law, Romaine Balent, York. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Sylvia Balent, York; Judith Bachkosky and her husband, Robert, Fishers, Ind.; Mary Beth Tabit and her husband, Joseph, Plains; and Joseph Balent and his wife, Robin, Charlotte, N.C.; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Marie's family would like to thank the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for their kindness and excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish Church, 535 N. Main St., Pittston, with the Rev. Paul McDonnell officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Dupont.
