Maureen Anne Morgan, 89, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 3, 2021 at Highland Park Senior Living, Wilkes-Barre Twp.

Born in Larksville, she was the daughter of the late James and Emma Nicolodi Barrett. She and her husband, Charles, resided in Aston until 1977, when they moved to Wilkes-Barre.

Maureen spent most of her life as a homemaker. She was a kindhearted, gentle and selfless woman who always put others needs before her own. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose home served as a home-away-from home for her granddaughters who live locally when they were children. Whether it be baking cookies or cupcakes or taking them on shopping trips to Grumpo's, she created wonderful memories they will forever cherish.

She had been active well into her mid-80's, driving, shopping and cooking. She continued to have a positive attitude as her health failed this past year, fighting back from multiple hospitalizations. True to form, she always worried more about the impact her health issues had on her family than on herself. She will be deeply missed.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband in May 2020; a 13-year-old son, David, in 1970; and brothers, James, Charles and John.

She is survived by a son, Stephen, Plymouth; daughters, Judith Marie Sweetland and her husband, John, Colorado Springs, Co.; and Theresa 'Terrie' Morgan-Besecker and her husband, Harry, Hanover Twp.; sister, Anne Maher, Swoyersville; and a brother, Edward Barrett, San Antonio, Texas; granddaughters, Markie Morgan, Pringle; Lorena Morgan, Kingston; and Alison Besecker, Pottsville; three grandsons, Matthew Morgan, Larksville; Paul Merritt, Colorado Springs, Co. and Sean Ellefson, Portland, Ore.; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, Chase, Cody, Caden and Lilah Morgan and her beloved cats, Ebony, Onyx and Delilah.

At Maureen's request, there will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, from Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.

The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Park for the care they provided Maureen the past six months. Her children would also like to thank her sister, Anne, for her dedication and help in caring for Maureen in the last years of her life.
