It is with great sadness that the family of Muriel Allford announces her passing. Surrounded by our love and prayers, Muriel entered eternal rest Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020. We are comforted by the lifetime of beautiful memories with which she has left us.
"Home is where the heart is," and Muriel was proud to call West Pittston hers for all of her life. Born to parents Edward and Hannah Evans Phethean on Feb. 6, 1932, Muriel would enjoy an idyllic childhood in the town she loved. She was a graduate of the West Pittston High School, Class of 1950, where she cultivated lifelong friendships with her classmates. She fell in love, was married to Harold Allford in 1952, and they raised their family in West Pittston, creating a home with as much heart as can be contained under one roof.
Muriel made sure her home was always filled with two things: friendship and Hershey Kisses. This made her home a gathering place for generations, first welcoming her children's friends and then her grandchildren's. Now, when so many think of West Pittston, they can fondly remember the memories that were made during the summers on Muriel's porch.
It was rare to find Muriel without a smile on her face or a good book by her side, which is a perfect philosophy for a life well-lived and one to which her family will certainly be aspiring.
In addition to her parents, Muriel is now reunited with her husband, Harold, who preceded her in death in 1998. Also welcoming her to Heaven are her brothers, George, Jack, Edward and Glenn Phethean; sisters, Jeannette Powers; and Alice Miller.
She is survived by her children, Jan Blandina and her husband, Michael, West Wyoming; Hal Allford and his wife, Patti, Gettysburg; Cheryl Marinelli, West Pittston; Dean Allford and his wife, Ramona, Exeter; grandchildren, Michelle Adams and her husband, Justin; Adrienne Wolfe and her husband, Jason; Gino Marinelli and his fiancée, Tammy Delucca; Alexandra Raines and her husband, Quentin; great-grandchildren Brady and Sophia Adams; Logan and Mason Wolfe; Kinsley and Cruz Marinelli; Gianna, Jacoby and Jaylen Raines; and numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Muriel was a lifelong and devoted member of First United Methodist Church, West Pittston.
Private funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
To commemorate her love of reading and her hometown, memorial donations may be made to the West Pittston Library.
