Nicholas Zapoticky, 58, of Dallas, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Stephen and Kathleen Shaver Zapoticky.

Nick was a graduate of Dallas Sr. High School, in 1981, and received his B.S. dual major in business administration and accounting from Misericordia University in 1986. He was an independent financial advisor for Meridian Financial Associates, Wilkes-Barre, and was also financial controller for Milazzo Industries, Pittston.

Nick was an active member in the Back Mountain youth sports community for many years, coaching his three sons in football, basketball, baseball and soccer. During this time, Nick impacted more than just his family. He was a mentor for numerous athletes and became close friends with many families. Nick was a fair and competitive coach who motivated his players to be their best on and off the field.

Aside from coaching, Nick was a man who always put his family first. He was a proud husband, father, brother and friend who loved tradition. Nick was a man of character, loyalty and compassion, who devoted his life teaching these values to his loved ones.

Nick was an avid sports fan who loved all Dallas sports programs, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Zapoticky; and his nephew, Keith Zapoticky.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, the former Donna Shanahan; children, Stephen, Ryan and Brady Zapoticky; sisters, Noreen Brzozowski and her husband, John; Diane Domzalski; Susan Polinchak and her husband, Gary; mother-in-law, Janet Shanahan; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and friends who he cherished.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Therese's Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown. The Rev. James Paisley will serve as officiant. Private interment will follow. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. All are asked to go directly to church on day of service. Masks are optional at the funeral home, but encouraged at the church.

Nick was known for giving back to his community. In lieu of flowers, please consider paying it forward this holiday season and spreading kindness.

To Nick´s family, I worked for Dr. Eugene Kim at Bone and Joint. I remember Nick coming in with the boys so proud of them. He was always polite. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May he Rest In Peace. May God Bless.

Sad news to hear of the passing of a great childhood friend. We played on baseball and softball teams for several years. Many fun stories with Nick from growing up on Perrin Avenue. I still tell them to this day. Bless you my friend. Rest in peace.
