Norma Evans

1932 - 2023

Norma Evans, 91, of Mountain Top, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023.

Norma was born Jan. 4, 1932, to Anna Gzemski and Frederick Weiss, in Nanticoke. She graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1949.

Norma worked as a dental assistant in Sugalski Dental office in Nanticoke. She then went on to work at Retreat State Hospital and Clark Summit State Hospital. Norma enjoyed her work in the library, where she developed and implemented educational programs.

Norma was an accomplished seamstress and expert crocheter. She made over 250 masks during the early phase of COVID that she shared with family and friends. She was an avid gardener and lover of nature. She loved spring when her garden would come into bloom with hundreds of daffodils. She enjoyed spending time with her family who affectionately called her "Grami."

Norma was her high school class of 1949 reunion committee treasurer and she enjoyed planning reunions and getting together with her classmates. She was an active member of her parish, St. Martin-in-the-Fields.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dolores.

Surviving are her sister, Joan Weiss, Los Angeles, Calif.; son, Rich Evans (Marion Walsh), Hernando, Fla.; daughter, Lori Bruch, Pocono Pines; and her grandchildren, Mike Evans (Syleste Evans); and Kristin Bisagna (Joe Bisagna). Other close family include Larry Bruch, Pam Evans and many great friends and neighbors who were considered family. Her family and friends will miss her loving spirit and her radiant smile.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Martin-in-the-Fields. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Martin-in-the-Fields.

Her family appreciates the loving care that she received from Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Smith Health Care.
