Penny Davis, 85, of Wilkes Barre and formerly of Hanover Twp., passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
She was born in Millsboro on Oct. 31, 1938, the daughter of the late Clarence and Anna Swankler Ritchey. She was a member of the graduating Class of 1956 of Hanover High School. She attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and obtained her LPN license. She was employed by various nursing homes in the area.
After her retirement, she worked as a caregiver for Visiting Angels. Penny was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
Preceding her in death was her dear mother, Anna Ritchey; and her mom's constant companion, Henry Kurello. Henry was like a father to Penny, always there for her in many ways.
Surviving are her sons, Robert and his children, Matthew and Michael Davis, Broomall; Drew and his children, Liam Thomas and Rylee Jo Davis, East Stroudsburg; Jeffrey Marc Davis and his wife, Jamie Cosgrove and child, Stephanie Michelle Davis; great-granddaughter, Areyanna, Penny's first great grandchild, Texas.
A special thank you to my son Jeffrey, who was Penny's "right arm." She was a pest to him because she totally relied on him for everything. He was always a phone call away.
My best and dearest friend/sister, Mary McGuigan and her husband Bill provided constant support and love, without it, Penny would have not survived. Mary was always giving a helping hand and Penny depended on her in every way. She gave her love, hope and moral support through bad and good times. To my best and dearest companion Sugar, who loved me unconditionally. To all the Torbik's and Niemenski cousins who are all good and special cousins. They were supportive during times of grief and good times as well.
A prayer service will be held at 5:30 pm Thursday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley. Family and friends may all from 4 p.m. to service time.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Donations can be made in her memory to Allied Services Hospice Center, 200 S. Meade St., Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.

Oh Penny, I worked with you about 30 years ago and always regarded you as an excellent nurse. I wonder if you still had the polyester uniform that I accidentally burned a hole in, and when I told you that you were burning, you answered," you're damned right I am". I sain- no- you really are burning. God Bless you and I hope he has a special place for you where you can be free to speak your mind.
