Peter John Rutkowski Sr., 81, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 7, 2021, surrounded by his five children, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.
Born Feb. 24, 1940, in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Peter William Rutkowski and Marie Evangeline Beaureguard Rutkowski Zukowski and stepfather, Joseph Zukowski. Peter attended Plymouth schools and was a veteran serving with the United States Army National Guard.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Heavy Highway Construction Company as a general foreman.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, loved fishing and the outdoors and was known as "Potato Peeling Pete" for the Polish Connection Restaurant, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carol Lee Smith, on Jan. 6, 2011; son-in-law, William Wolfe, on March 24, 2009; and sister, Victoria Janusziewicz.
Surviving are his loving children, Jean Wolfe, Venice, Fla.; Denise Gilbert and her husband, Robert, Harding; Peter John Rutkowski Jr. and his wife, Diane, Aquasco, Md.; Mariann Pierontoni and her fiancé, David Beynon, Glen Lyon; and Marie Ondish, Plymouth; grandchildren, Teresa Lee Homeier; William Peter; Adam Joseph; Sara Jean; and Timothy Jon Wolfe; Jonathan, Benjamin and Melissa Gilbert; Nello IV; Damian Peter; Chase William; and Carisa Ann Pierontoni; Richard Paul Minuski; and Shane Brandt; sister, Mary Shively, Shavertown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, those attending visitation at the funeral home are asked to wear a face mask and follow social distancing guidelines.
Private military funeral will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made Guillain-Barre Syndrome in Peter's memory.
