Rita Puteria George, 85, of Avoca, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.
She was born in Edwardsville May 1, 1936, and was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Puteria.
Rita was a devoted Christian and an active member of Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish Church, Pittston. She was a graduate of Edwardsville High School. Rita retired from Laura Fashions, Avoca, as a seamstress after many years of employment.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. George Jr., who passed away Sept. 18, 2021; son, William J. George; sister, Bernadine Belles; and brother, Jack Puteria.
Rita is survived by her sons, Robert, of Avoca; and John and his wife, Jill, of Pittston Twp. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jessica and her fiancé, James; Brittany; Madison; and Hailey; great-grandchildren, Riley, James, Abbigale, Colby, Kynsley and Ryker. Also surviving is her niece, Ann Marie Belles and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish Church, 535 N. Main St., Pittston, with the Rev. Paul McDonnell officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church for the Mass; there will be no procession. Interment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming.
