Dr. Robert J. Czwalina, 72, of Mountain Top, passed away Friday morning, Nov. 5, 2021, at Allied Services Hospice, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, after a brief illness.
Born in Fort Belvoir, Va., he was the son of the late Paul F. and Lucy Ann Cybulski Czwalina.
He was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1967. After graduation, on July 10, 1967, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War and attaining the rank of specialist fifth grade. Upon his honorable discharge from active service on Sept. 9, 1970, he enrolled at King's College, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then furthered his education at the Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, Class of 1978, and completed his internship at Metropolitan Hospital, Philadelphia, the following year.
Dr. Czwalina returned to the Wyoming Valley and completed his residency training at Nesbitt Hospital, Kingston. Following residency, Dr. Czwalina remained active practicing family medicine in Wilkes-Barre and was currently the medical director of the City of Wilkes-Barre. He was also the director of the Physician's Assistant Program at King's College for many years. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society, and the Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon, Post 558.
To say that Bob was an avid Army Football fan would be a huge understatement. For many years, he was a season ticket holder for the Army football games at Michie Stadium, West Point.
GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY!
He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Czwalina, on Aug. 4, 2017.

I had the privilege and honor to shadow Dr. Czwalina for several weeks during my undergraduate years at King's College. He was a fantastic man and physician. He was a keen diagnostician. I watched him diagnose a perorated ulcer using only his fingers to percuss, he sent the patient directly to the hospital and right to the OR, where he assisted in surgery, definitely saved the guys life. You do not see many family physicians nowadays with these versatile capabilities. Dr. Czwalina taught me so much and helped me decide to pursue a career in medicine. I am now a practicing Physician Assistant for over 22 years. I was very saddened to learn of his passing; although it was several years ago, i am sure he is truly missed by his family, friends, and patients. God bless and rest in peace.

I just learned of Bob's passing and my heart goes out to his family, especially his girls. He always talked about them and was so proud of both of you . Bob and I were close when we were in college and stayed friends forever. He was one of a kind. He told me one time he wanted to be a doctor so he could help people and would be happy to get paid in chickens! He delivered my son 37 years ago and my late husband and I went to Dr. Bob until he closed his practice. He was always just a call away when we needed him. Rest in peace, Bob, you will be missed by so many.

It's with a great sadness and heaviness in my heart to have to offer my condolences to your family. I'm very sorry for his loved ones untimely loss. He was a great guy and always had an off the wall joke to break up a conversation or brighten a day. I called on Doc for years as a sales rep and had the pleasure of working with him for the past couple of years. He was a great guy and it was a pleasure to have him as a co-worker, a fellow veteran, a neighbor and most of all to be able to call him my friend. I think we really helped each other thru the Covid quarantine and I will miss his calls and his stories. My prayers go out to his loved ones and may he rest in peace! Go Army and God Bless.
