Steven M. Masakowski, 77, of Newport Twp., passed away Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at the Lakewood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Nanticoke.
He was born in Nanticoke, Sept. 19, 1946, the son of the late Stanley and Josephine Klotz Masakowski.
Steve was a member of the graduating class of 1964 of the Newport Twp. High School.
He went on to pursue his education and received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Bethel State College.
Steve was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972. He was the recipient of the National Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal W/2 Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed for over 28 years as an auditor for the Department of Defense, traveling to many parts of the country.
He was a member of Holy Spirit/St. Adalbert's Church, Glen Lyon, where he was very active in the parish, serving as an Altar Server, a lector and Eucharistic minister.
Preceding him in death was his sister-in-law, Theresa Masakowski.
Surviving are brothers, Michael Masakowski and his wife, Maryann, West Nanticoke; Robert "Casey" Masakowski, Glen Lyon; nephews, Jason, Mark and Michael Masakowski; and several cousins.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held in St. Michael's Cemetery, Glen Lyon.
Donations can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 190 Welles St., Suite 118, Forty Fort.
The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Dr. Janusz Wolanin and his entire staff, as well as the entire staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, for their excellent care and compassion given to Steve in his time of need.
