Sue Ziegler Obituary

Kenlyn "Sue" Ziegler, 89, of Mountain Top, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022.

Born Jan. 2, 1933, in Milwaukee, "Suzie" was raised in Wisconsin, Alaska and Pennsylvania.

A 1955 graduate of Penn State University, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and the Thespian Club. A lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association and Nittany Lion football season ticket holder, she often said that her time in "Happy Valley" was the best of her life. Sue also obtained her Master of Library Science degree at the University of Scranton while pursuing a teaching career. After a memorable 32 years in the Crestwood School District as teacher, librarian and school principal, primarily at Fairview Elementary, she retired in 1994.

Sue married her college sweetheart, Bill Ziegler, of Norristown. Over their 68 years together, they lived in Tacoma, Wash., Norristown and in 1964, settled in Mountain Top, where she became an active member of the community, serving as president of the Newcomers and Women's Clubs, the PTA as well as a realtor with Bill's residential real estate firm. She and Bill were competitive bridge players and long-time members of the Valley Tennis and Swim Club.

Sue is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Detwiler Ziegler Jr. (2018); and son, William "Bill" Detwiler Ziegler III (2022).

Sue is survived by her sister, Nancy Rush, Charleston, S.C.; her daughters, Dani Durham (Ken), Charlotte, N.C.; and Shelly Onorato (Dan), Pittsburgh; daughter-in-law, Irene Urban Ziegler, Mountain Top; grandchildren, Alex (Jennifer), David and Jonathan Durham; Kate (Mike Bedrin), Emily and Danny Onorato; Will, Ben, Catherine and Hannah Ziegler; great-granddaughter, Caroline Durham.

Many thanks to the kind staff at St. Barnabas Washington Place, Pittsburgh, for making Sue's final years comfortable.

The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday or 10:30 a.m. until funeral time Saturday.
