Thomas P. Hughes Jr., 85, of Mountain Top, formerly of Kingston, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023.
Born Nov. 22, 1937, in Sugar Notch, Tom was the son of the late Thomas P. and Nellie Daniel Hughes Sr. A resident of Ashley, he was a graduate of Ashley High School and attended Williamsport College of Technology.
He resided in the Lee Park Section of Hanover Twp. prior to relocating to Kingston. Tom was the proprietor of the Atlantic Richfield (ARCO) gas station on Market Street, Kingston, and later located on the corner of Wyoming Avenue and Northampton Street, Kingston. During this time, he also owned Hughes Towing, and was the exclusive towing contractor for the Municipality of Kingston. Moving to John Street, Kingston, Tom founded and was the owner of Hughes Limousine Service. The business is in operation today by his cousin, Sam Daniel.
Preceding Tom in death was a brother, the Rev. William Hughes.
Surviving are his cousin and caregiver, Marilyn Brogan and her husband, Clem, Mountain Top; sister-in-law, Mildred Hughes, Virginia Beach, Va.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Tom will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home Inc., 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Mark De Silva, of Living Hope Bible Church, officiating. Tom will be buried in the family plot in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Twp., following the service. Friends may visit with family from 9 a.m. to service time.
Memorial donations in Tom's name may be made to the Living Hope Bible Church, 484 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
