Thomas McTague Obituary
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 25, 1939. Thomas was the son of the late Robert and Bernadine Lloyd McTague. He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1958, where he was a stand-out athlete.
Thomas started his career in law enforcement as a Plymouth police officer. He later moved on to work as an investigator in the Luzerne County public defender's office, where he later retired. His devotion to Plymouth never ceased. He served as a councilman for 22 years. In 2018, he was elected mayor. Thomas believed that through civil service, positive change could be made. This was evident in his loyal assistance to his hometown community. He was deeply dedicated to the people of Plymouth and earned great trust and respect through his ever-present service. The Borough of Plymouth and its citizens lost one of their greatest champions.
He is survived by his son, Thomas McTague and his wife, Erica, Edwardsville; his daughter, Sara McTague and granddaughter, Aurora Sukaloski, Plymouth; Mary Ellen Mundy, mother of Thomas and Sara, Plymouth; sister, Elizabeth Cooper and her husband, the late Robert Cooper, Plymouth; brother, Robert McTague and his wife, Debra, Mountain Top; sister, Kathleen Kennedy and her husband, the late John Kennedy, Plymouth; nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in All Saints Parish, 66 Willow St., Plymouth. Family and friends attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.
Friends are welcome to remember Thomas from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kielty-Moran Funeral Home Inc., 87 Washington Ave., Plymouth.
