Vincent C. Burakiewicz

1950 - 2021

Vincent C. Burakiewicz, 71, of Trucksville, passed away Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, in Naperville, Ill.

He was born Sept. 2, 1950, in Swoyersville, son of the late Stanley and Josephine Burakiewicz. He was a graduate of West Side Central Catholic, a Navy veteran and a member of the Swoyersville American Legion Post 644. He was employed at Altec Industries, Wilkes-Barre, where he began his career with Sterling Industries as a service mechanic and certified welder. His years of work repairing and building Altec equipment allowed him to transition to the service department which he retired from as a support services supervisor after more then 40 years of service.

Vince enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren located in Maryland and Illinois. He frequented local train shops, meticulously matted stamps and coins as well as built numerous model naval ships. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, NASCAR, country music, The Birds and The Beach Boys. His extensive knowledge made him a sure win at all trivia games.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Stanko Burakiewicz; mother-in-law, Lena Stanko; and brother-in-law, Michael John Stanko Sr.

Surviving are his children, Janel Yaun and her husband, Keith; Vincent M. Burakiewicz and his wife, Maria; Santina Burakiewicz-Carlson and her husband, Paul; grandchildren, Antersa, Reed, Vincent G., Christian, Sophie, Olive; niece, Trisha Wildey; nephew, Michael J. Stanko Jr.; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett St., Luzerne. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m.

Interment with military honors will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown.
