Viola Hoover Obituary

Viola Hoover, 101, formerly of Lehman, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at The Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas, where she had been a guest for the past six years.

She was born in Meeker in 1908 and was the daughter of the late William and Rose Fiske Sarver. She grew up in the Broadway/Harveyville area and graduated from Huntington Mills High School in 1927.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 48 years, Arthur, in 1977; brother, Stanley; sister, Asenith Wolfe; grandson, Kevin Hoover.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Gerald and Jule, Unionville; Gordon and Molly, Middlesex, N.J.; and Dale and Jean, Atwater, Calif. She also has five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Viola was a member of Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church and its WSCS and was a former member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She was also a longtime member of Meeker Methodist Church before it closed and served many years there as the secretary of the WSCS.

Her last place of employment before she retired was the former Natona Mills in Dallas. Before that she worked in a dress factory in Kearny, N.J., and before that as a domestic housekeeper for several families in the area.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. from Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with the Rev. Beverly Butler, pastor of Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church, officiating. Private interment will be Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek, at a later date. Friends may call Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m., prior to the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Hoover's memory be made to Idetown-Lehman United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1, Lehman, PA 18627, or the charity of one's choice.

Our sympathy and prayers go out to all of Viola's family. What a grand lady she was--compassionate and kind, with that wonderful twinkle in her eyes, and gentle laugh. She will be missed.

All of my grandparents had died before I was born and Grandma Hoover stepped in and gladly accepted that role and always considered me one of her granddaughters. She has been there through every step of our family's life and we will miss her terribly. All of the Hoovers have always welcomed us as family. If there's anything we can do, please let us know.
