David Laney Obituary

David Charles Laney of Lenexa, Kansas, died unexpectedly of natural causes at home on Sunday, April 4, 2021. Dave was born in Lawrence, KS, on July 21, 1948, to Chet and Geri Laney. The family moved to Topeka, KS, where Dave attended Most Pure Heart of Mary School, Jardine Junior High and graduated Topeka High School in 1966. While in high school he swam and golfed on teams coached by his father. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1970 from the University of Kansas. During his first three years of college he swam for KU. Dave was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Fifty years ago on February 20, 1971, he married the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Becky Warren Laney. Dave worked for his dad at Lake Shawnee Golf Course. His life long professional career of selling office furniture began with Thacher's in Topeka. This career path led him toKansas City where he ultimately co-owned ReSources of Kansas City until his retirement in 2018.

Dave had a passion for life that played out in the variety of hobbies and interests in his life including motorcycles, dune buggies, fast cars, playing organ in a band, golf and all things KU. He never met a stranger, only made a new friend. David had a wealth of knowledge on a multitude of topics which he was happy to share.

David is survived by his wife Becky of the home; brothers Tom Laney of Perry, Kansas and Randy Laney (Judy) of Denver, Colorado and their son Max (Kate) of Arizona; sisters-in-law Barbara Salyer (Harry), and Brenda Escalante (Bob) all of Topeka; Nephews Michael Escalante, Chris Escalante (Kendra), Jeff Salyer (Christina), and niece Chrissy Carlson (Graig). He had five great-nieces and three great-nephews; his god daughters Lainey and Taylor Birnbaum; and countless others who knew him as "Uncle Dave".

Dave and I shared many interests together, dune buggies, hunting and driving muscle cars. He lived life to the limit and never met a stranger. My sons looked up to Dave because he was cool and treated them as his own. We all miss him and wish Becky all the best in remembering his time spent with all of the Meyer family.
