Ernest H. Blair Ernest H. Blair, 96, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born July 18, 1917 in Topeka, the son of Hunter and Flossie Burkhart Blair. Ernest graduated from Seaman High School in 1936. He served in the Army during World War II, serving in Europe in the 591st Field Artillery Battalion. He married Dorothy A. Willett of Topeka July 26, 1942, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were sisters Wilma Thornton, Clara Ulrich and brother Earl Blair. He is survived by his daughter Cherry Ann Hall of Middletown, RI. Ernest worked as an insurance broker for the Meade Company for many years, retiring in 1980. He moved to Arizona after retiring and returned to Topeka in 1984 and lived there ever since. He served as a deacon at St. David s Episcopal Church and was previously a member of Grace Cathedral in Topeka. He was a member of VFW Philip Billard Post #1650, American Legion Capitol Post #1 and the Shawnee Country Club. Mr. Blair s wishes were to be cremated. Private inurnment will take place at Mount Hope Mausoleum, Topeka. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, is assisting the family. To leave the family a special message online, visit Ernest H. Blair

Very sorry to hear of his passing. I didn't know him, but Dorothy was the Secretary at my grade school. And I think Hunter was my neighbor on Parkview.

I was sorry to hear of Ernie's passing.He and Dorothy were just great people,and my Father and Mother were friend's of theirs.I remember years ago spending some good times waterskiing with them at the lake during summers in Topeka.Ernie was also a great people person,and very successful in his field.I had my first auto ins.with him as a new driver,and he was always very helpful,and a pleasure to deal with.I have fond memories of Ernie and Dorothy.He will be missed.My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
