Fredrick Windmeyer Obituary

Fredrick Walter Windmeyer, 55, Topeka, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, from injuries suffered in a car-pedestrian accident. He was born Sept. 30, 1947, at Sabetha, the son of Leland and Genevieve Dutton Windmeyer. He grew up near Highland where he attended schools and graduated from high school in 1965. He attended Highland Junior College for a short time. Mr. Windmeyer worked for Flair Fold wood fabrication plant in Hiawatha for many years before working for Schwans Sales in Hiawatha, where he was promoted to sales manager and moved to Graham, Texas, for a total of 13 years. He returned to Topeka three-and-a-half years ago and worked for Harrahs Prairie Band Casino on the Potawatomi Reservation south of Holton. Mr. Windmeyer started in maintenance before being promoted recently to purchasing agent. He also received the honor of "Star of the Month" with the casino. In his early years, he attended Zion United Methodist Church, northeast of Robinson. He was also a life member of the Handyman Club of America. He collected Hot Wheels toy cars and John Deere toy tractors. He was married to Diann Mendez on Sept. 29, 1972, in Hiawatha. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Shane Windmeyer, Charlotte, N.C., and Ricky Windmeyer, Colorado.; one daughter, Jennifer Windmeyer, Topeka; his father, Leland Windmeyer, Highland; three sisters, Vicki Windmeyer, Blue Springs, Mo., Linda Herring, Highland, and Leanda May, Hiawatha; and one grandson, Levi Windmeyer. He was preceded in death by his mother and a daughter, Latricia Windmeyer in 1972. Funeral services will be 2 p.m.Thursday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Jerry Petering will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Friends may visit after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial contributions can be made to the Fred Windmeyer Memorial Fund, to be designated later by the family, and sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S. 7th, Hiawatha, 66434.

I just wanted to say I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!! Noone will NEVER be able to take away the memories that I have of my dear Uncle Fred. He meant the world to me and was always a phone call away.
