James Clark Obituary

GRAND MARAIS, Minn. - James Walter Clark, 77, Grand Marais, Minn., passed away Friday, March 4, 2005. He was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Pittsburg, Kan., the son of Charly Adolph Clark and Bessie Cornelius Hart Clark. Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Harley, Ralph, Harold and Charlie, and Baby Clark; an infant sister, Elsia May Clark; and a son, Terence Lee Clark. Mr. Clark graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1946. He served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. He married Carolyn Agnes Frakes on Oct. 9, 1951. He worked for 38 years with railroads, including Southern Pacific, Santa Fe and Kansas City Southern Line. He last worked with the Santa Fe in Topeka, and retired in 1983. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and Knights of Columbus in Topeka, and was a lifetime member of the Transportation Communications Union. Mr. Clark moved to Superior, Wis., in 1988. He enjoyed driving the back roads in Wisconsin and Minnesota and giving others rides to the doc tor and other errands. Surviving are daughters, Jan (Dale) Smith, Grand Marais, and Lois “Annie” Clark, Thunder Bay, Ontario; sons, James (Donna) and Christopher, both of Topeka, Thomas, Norfolk, Va., and Charles Timothy, Olathe, Kan.; four grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Mildred “Rene” Roland Blackmon, Pittsburg, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a local hospice unit. A private family memorial will be in Grand Marais in July.
