Kent Weeks Obituary

Kent Brandon Weeks left this world on Thursday, March 17, 2005, after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer. Kent was born Aug. 16, 1950, in Topeka, the son of Donald and Phyllis Weeks. He married Patricia Ann White, of Chicago, on July 8, 1986. Together they had a son, Brandon Patrick Weeks, born Oct. 28, 1987. Kent grew up in Topeka and was a very talented golfer and gymnast throughout junior high and high school. He graduated from Topeka West High School in 1968. Kent attended Washburn University, played golf on its golf team and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a member of the National Guard. Upon graduation from Washburn, Kent moved to Chicago in 1978 to pursue his dream of working in the financial markets. He achieved that dream , culminating in a career spanning more than a quarter century that included working on the New York Stock Exchange, the Midwest Stock Exchange and the Chicago Board of Options Exchange. He was managing di rector of Weeks Securities from 1982 through 2002. Kent s passions were his work, his family, his friends and golf. His is survived by his wife, Patricia Weeks; son, Brandon; stepsons, Michael Hajek and his wife, Mary, and David Hajek and his wife, Renee; and three grandchildren, all in LaGrange, Ill. Other survivors include his mother, Phyllis; sisters, Stacy Weeks, M.D., and Terri Jowett and her husband, Ted, Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Don; and a brother, Eric Weeks. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brandon Weeks Education Fund and sent in care of Fifth Third Bank, 1023 W. 55th St., Countryside, Ill., 60525; or to Vitas Hospice, 580 Waters Edge, S. 500, Lombard, Ill., 60148. A memorial service was March 19 in Countryside, Ill. A celebration of Kent s life will be Friday at Shawnee Country Club in Topeka, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Stacy, Phyllis, Terry and Family,

It's so hard to find the right words to say when you've lost someone so close. Kent was a fun-loving guy who always made me laugh. He definitely knew how to enjoy life. I'm sad that I wasn't able to be there for the funeral. I just want you to know that my heart is with you all.

We can't know why some things happen... but we can know that love and memories outlast the pain of grief. Those we cherish will always live on in memory.

Love to you all! Sandy

Dear Stacy and family,

Even though I didn't know Kent, Stacy and I had talked briefly about his illness and the fear of the unknown when he was first diagnosed...I always feel a little at loss for words when death happens, especially when it seems so unfair...so, I'm enclosing a piece of poetry from The Beauty of Death written by Kahlil Gibran...Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers...Amy

Utter no sigh of agony, but draw upon my face

With your finger, the symbol of Love and Joy,

Disturb not the air's tranquility with chanting and requiems,

But let your hearts sing with me the song of Eternal Life:

Mourn me not with apparel of black,

But dress in colour and rejoice with me;

Talk not of my departure with sighs in your hearts;

Close your eyes and you will see

Me with you forevermore.

Dear Phyllis, Stacy and Terri,

I was saddened to read about Kent. I hope that you will find comfort in knowing that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I just keep thinking about how he accidentally caught the yard on fire and the fire truck had to come to put the fire out. With my deepest sympathy. Jane Land

Dear Phyliss, Terri, & Stacy;

All of my thoughts, prayers, and love go out to you. Such wonderful memories I have of all the times spent with your family. While I have not seen Kent in many years I always enjoyed hearing about him and his family from Stacy. Stacy, it was great sharing our memories of our brothers on the phone yesterday, we had some great times. David was surely blessed by his friendship with Kent and I know that he will miss him dearly. We find comfort in knowing that Kent's spirit will dwell in our hearts always and the great memories will be with us forever. Pat & Brandon are in my prayers as well. God is with you. I love you guys.

Stacy and Family,

I am so sorry to hear that Kent's life on this earth has ended, but Glory Be To God, he is walking in The Kingdom of God in perfect health and perfect form. I am a close friend of Dawn Southall's and she had asked me to add Kent to my prayer chain several weeks ago. Many people prayed for Kent and now the prayers will be spoken on your families behalf. I met both Kent and David way back in the 60's when they worked at the Country Club, what a pair. I know that they loved one another as brother's and am certain that David is also reeling in pain and anguish, please give him my condolences as well.

In His Care and Love,

Stunned and saddened would be an understatement. Even though I had not seen Kent in years, I thought of him often. I remember all the fun times we had at Shawnee Country Club as kids playing golf, swimming, the innocent mischief and havoc we created. My sympathies go out to the entire Weeks family...
