LaMoyne Smith Obituary

LaMoyne M. Smith LaMoyne M. Smith, 93, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018.

He was born September 1, 1924, in Admire, Kansas, the son of Walter and Jennie (Coates) Smith.

LaMoyne graduated from Admire High School. He earned his Bachelor and Masters Degree in Education from Emporia State Teachers College. He received his life teaching certificate and taught Business Education in Staffordville High School, Peabody High School and Highland Park High School for a total of 36 years. He also worked part-time as a loan officer for the Topeka Teachers Credit Union for 25 years. In his retirement years he enjoyed making furniture for his family and doing carpenter work for other people.

LaMoyne was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Corp, a member KNEA, and Crestview United Methodist Church.

He married Mary L. Shepherd on December 22, 1947. They were married for 58 years. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2005. LaMoyne was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan in 1958 and Roland in 2009.

He is survived by a son, Joe D. and his wife, Jane Smith; a daughter, Diana L. McGuire and her husband, Steven McGuire; five grandchildren, Patrick Smith, Jody Johnson, Danielle Gomez, Kelli Wingfield and Amanda McGuire and seven great-grandchildren.

LaMoyne was cremated. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am; with the memorial ceremony following at 11:00 am., on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Crestview United Methodist Church, 2245 SW Eveningside Dr., Topeka, Kansas 66614. Interment of the cremated remains will be at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel in Topeka, Kansas following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crestview United Methodist Church .

To Mr. Smith's family--sorry to learn of your father's death. He was one of my favorite teachers at Highland Park High learning shorthand from him!
