Matthew Bailey Obituary
He was born September 23, 1996 in Topeka, the son of Melvin and Linda McClure Bailey.
Matthew graduated from Royal Valley High School in 2015. During high school he played football, and did wrestling and track.
He was a member of the Mayetta Christian Church and the Mayetta Mustangs 4-H Club. His daughter Amaya meant the world to him.
Survivors include his daughter, Amaya Bailey, of the home, his mother, Linda Bailey and John Chavez, Mayetta; father and step-mother, Melvin & Jenny Bailey, Mayetta; grandparents, Donna & Norman Hinderliter, Silver Lake, Larry McClure, in Florida, and Marvella Bailey, Ft. Worth, TX; three brothers, James McDerrmott, Alexandria, VA, Michael Bailey, Topeka, Lance Bailey, Mayetta and Tyler Area, Valley Falls; and two sisters, Jessica Kearney, Topeka and Bailey Brown, Meriden.
Family and friends will meet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 12th at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt where a memorial service will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Matthew Bailey Memorial Fund, and may be sent in care of the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, PO Box 280, Hoyt, 66440. A go fund me page has also been established in Matthew Bailey's name. On-line condolences may be made at chapeloaksfuneralhome.com

Bailey Family, My family was on the road that morning and were there at the site with the other drivers and police for several hours. We have kept you all in our prayers every time we have prayed over our food, at night, and in the morning. We are so sorry for your loss. We wish you all peace and support during this time of mourning.

As our community mourns the loss of Matthew Bailey, may we also remember the memories he brought to all of us. Matthew was an incredible guy. As a parent it saddens me to see such a tragedy happen at such a young age. Life isn't fair sometimes and no parent should have to lose their kids at such an early age. That's why it's so important to make the most of every day with your daughter or son. Life is too short so make memories as often as possible. Matthew was such a happy, laid back, curious and no fear kind of guy. He was great in football, baseball and track and I loved his competitive ways. He ran with Skyler a few times in the relays and I remember taking great pics of him pole vaulting too. The coaches always were so supportive of Matthew and the fun he brought to the track team was amazing. I loved his smile and ornery ways. As a parent I appreciated his respect and willingness to acknowledge me when I was taking track photos or just trying to support their team. Linda and Melvin, you have raised a true gentleman. I'm so very sorry for your loss and pray that you have time to grieve while planning his memorial. The memories he has left behind will be treasured forever. His peers and the community think the world of him and your family. May Matthew Rest In Peace and may your family be at peace as you mourn the loss of such a wonderful guy. Our love to you today and always.
