Nettie GOBLE Obituary

NETTIE GOBLE
(Dobrowney) nee Ewanski
October 1, 1924 - October 26, 2012
Our wonderful mother, Baba, great-grandmother, aunty and friend passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Friday, October 26, 2012. She will be dearly missed by the children of her two marriages, Connie Hubley (Dave), Audrey Dobrowney (Murray Wade), Walter Dobrowney (Susan), Belle Stephanson, Bill Goble (Debra), Pat Nostbakken (Joel), Pam Goble (Peter Eng); her grandchildren, Shawn, Kerry, Tom, Annette, Kevin, Tyler, Travis, Vanessa, Michael, Jessica, Michelle, Andrew, Cameron, Tristan, Nadine, Janelle, Marie, Candice, Carrie, Clayton, Diane, Eric, Tara, Anthony, Nick, Liesl, Joel, Lian, Quinn; great-grandchildren Christopher, Caitlyn, Dreyden, Brian, Paige; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends here and in Mazatlan. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Michael Lorne Dobrowney in 1981; her parents, James and Mary Ewanski; her brothers Max and Mike; her sisters, Anne, Tilly, Polly, Margaret; and sadly this year she lost her husband of 24 years, William (Bill) Ross Goble in March, and her sister/best friend, Elsie Siganski in April. Mom was born and raised on the farm near Bankend, SK. She moved to Saskatoon in her later teenage years with her sister Elsie and worked at St. Paul's Hospital. She married Dad in 1943 and they lived in Chatham and Chilliwack where Dad was stationed. After the war they settled in Saskatoon where they owned and operated the Market Cafe for many years. Staying in the food industry, Mom started Linds Catering at the Elks Lodge which continued until the Elks sold their property. She then worked for Remco Memorials in Saskatoon as a sales consultant. Her kind and loving nature helped many people during their time of sorrow, and putting her artistic talents to good use, she designed many beautiful monuments. She was transferred to Edmonton where she started a new Remco office. During her time there, she survived a horrific car accident, which brought her back to family in Saskatoon. After her recovery, she discovered what she felt was her true calling and embarked on a life-long journey of alternative health care, becoming certified as a Master Herbologist, Reflexologist, and many other healing techniques. While managing a Sangster's Health Food Store, she met Bill, who was also widowed and shared her interest in alternative health therapies. To the joy of both families, they fell deeply in love and were married on August 7, 1988. Bill took an early retirement from the City of Saskatoon, and they embarked on a wonderful life together exploring new horizons. Family and friends enjoyed many summers together at their trailer at the lake, camping, boating and fishing. They took up golfing and bowling and spent many happy hours at the bowling alley. They loved to travel and travelled across Canada visiting friends and relatives. One of their greatest joys was discovering Mazatlan which became an annual six week vacation for more than twenty years. Mom will be remembered first and foremost for her love of family. She was always involved in all of our activities, watching, cheering, sewing costumes, volunteering, wiping away tears and providing encouragement and support. She demonstrated to us the values of a solid work ethic, the importance of honesty and the tradition of caring for others. She showered us all with unconditional love - we could always count on her support without reservation. She had a lifelong interest in learning, and developed proficiency in so many different skills, which she was only too happy to teach to others. Knitting, sewing, crochet, embroidery, making pysanky - we all sport her artistic creations. She held classes in her home, the hall and S.I.A.A.S. teaching handcrafts to all who wished to learn. She was the wardrobe mistress for the Yevshan Ukrainian Folk Ballet for over ten years, where she was "mom" to all the many dancers. Mom loved nature - working in her bountiful, weed-free vegetable garden, enjoying her many flowers, watching the birds in her feeder, picking berries, mushrooms and herbs in the bush, fishing, or just watching a sunrise, walking with Bill on the beach in Mazatlan. Mom was renowned for her cooking, and we will all miss the jams, jellies, pickles, sauerkraut, pies, cookies, cinnamon buns, cabbage rolls, borscht, pyrohy, "garlic tonic", and holiday feasts that she loved to share with everyone. She leaves a wonderful legacy of a life well lived, her love wrapped around us. A beloved wife, super mom, doting baba, she was dearly loved by all of us, and will be dearly missed. Thank you mom for everything!! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care Staff at St. Paul's Hospital and the Home Care staff and nurses at CPAS. Your kindness, concern, caring and professionalism allowed us to care for mom in her own home that she loved. A very special thank you to nurses Donna and Marlene, your excellent care and support made a difficult time so much easier. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. A private celebration of life for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Park Funeral Chapel (311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon) officiated by Rev. Jake Friesen. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK. To send online condolences to the family, visit www.parkfuneral.ca. "Obituaries & Tributes" Arrangements entrusted to Kenneth J. Nettie was a good friend , a teacher, someone I laughed with alot and a person of such deep compassion and caring- I was privelaged to be part of her life when she started alternative health care and I saw the many people she was involved in her healing....I was also of benefit of many of her amazing ukranian meals and most of all I was humbled by her caring way for all those I saw come to her in their time of need....she is truly a bodhisattva

Nettie and my mom Jackie Mckelvie were very close friends, and worked together in the sangsters that my mom owned, and Nettie managed. My mom and I called Nettie before she passed away, and we were so glad we were able to have a visit, as it was our last. My condolences to you all.. She was a really special person to our family

Baba was an inspiration to me, and anyone with blended family. She helped me see that stepfamily doesn't mean that you're divided, but a step that you need to take together.

Here's to the love, kindness and laughs we shared together xxx

If we get the Heaven we wish for, Mom is here!

I want to say "Rest in Peace, Mom" but I know you will be joining Dad and Elsie in Mazatlan-Heaven, laughing and having fun together as it should be. Thank you for welcoming me to your family, sharing your recipes, and your produce! You are missed. Happy eternal gardening, mom.
